Insurance

Some health insurance companies include cover for therapy sessions. If you're planning on using your insurance, I recommend speaking with your provider first. That way, you can check what your policy covers you for. While you won't need their Authorisation for your free Introductory Call, we will need their written Authorisation before your 50-minute Consultation appointment can take place.

Please let me know if you'd like to use your insurance when you first make contact with me. I'll be happy to help you navigate the process.

Answers to your
Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’m nervous about starting therapy
I understand it can be hard to share difficult, painful, or embarrassing things. Feeling nervous is very natural - many people feel this way, especially at the beginning. Please be assured that I’m committed to finding a way to put you at ease and care for your nervousness. It can be helpful to think of therapy as a place where you can bring anything that's going on for you - a place where you can be entirely yourself without fear of judgment. There's no pressure to commit to sessions if you don't feel it's right for you.
  • How do I know which type of therapy is right for me?
Choosing the right kind of therapy can feel pretty daunting with lots of different factors to consider. It’s important to remember there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and what works for one person may not work for another. The best way to determine if my approach is right for you is to contact me to arrange a time to talk. I am happy to assess your needs and ascertain whether the type of therapy I offer is right for you.
  • Is online psychotherapy right for me?
Research shows online therapy to be just as effective as in-person therapy. It’s an excellent option if it's difficult for you to attend in-person, or prefer to be in a safe and familiar environment. It's important to note, however, that online therapy may not be suitable for everyone. Certain mental health conditions or individual circumstances may require in-person therapy only, (or a combination of the two). I recommend contacting me to discuss the best course of action for your specific needs.
  • After the Consultation, will I be expected to come to you for therapy?
No. I feel it is really important that you find a psychotherapist who best suits your needs. There is no expectation that you continue with therapy following the initial consultation.
  • Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is the bedrock upon which a therapeutic relationship is based - your stories, personal feelings, emotions, and histories are your privilege to share and yours to entrust within the confines of your sessions. There are some limitations to confidentiality - such as mandated reporting laws, and in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. We discuss confidentiality in detail during our first session.
  • How many sessions will I need?
This can vary widely and it really depends on what you wish to talk about in your sessions. Some people find what they need in as few as 12 sessions. But generally, therapy will likely last several months or longer. Prior to commencing therapy, we would discuss this together, but ultimately, it is your choice.
  • Do you offer weekend sessions?
No. My therapy clinic is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • What if you can't help me?
The people I see are important to me. I always ensure that my way of working is in their best interest. If I felt that I was not the best person for you, I would endeavour to point you in the direction of someone better suited.
  • I need emergency help - should I call you?
No. The therapy service I offer is not an emergency or out-of-hours service, and I do not provide emergency mental health care. If you have a mental health emergency, (i.e. are at risk of harming yourself, or harming another), please get in touch with any of the following: Ø Your GP Ø 111 for the free NHS Helpline Service Ø 999 for all emergency services Ø The Samaritans on 116 123 Ø Visit www.samaritans.org Ø Text SHOUT to 85258
